Burst pipe repair and damage control

A burst or split pipe requires rapid isolation first, followed by a repair suited to the pipe material, failure point and surrounding condition.

Stop the flow before anything else

Close the nearest effective isolation valve and confirm that the flow has reduced. If a local valve does not isolate the leak, close the main supply where safe and accessible. Open a lower tap briefly if necessary to relieve residual pressure after isolation.

Why pipes fail

Failures can result from corrosion, damaged fittings, movement, accidental impact, excessive pressure, poor support, installation defects or age-related deterioration. The failed point should be inspected before assuming that a simple patch is the full solution.

Reinstatement matters

Where a concealed pipe is repaired, the plumbing work and the reinstatement of ceilings, walls, tiles or waterproofing should be scoped separately. This avoids confusion over what the repair price includes.
