Plumbing problem

Burst flexible plumbing hose: what to do immediately

Flexible connectors can release large volumes of water quickly, so safe isolation and damage limitation come first.

Isolate the water

Close the nearest working isolation valve or the main supply if necessary. Keep clear of water near electrical equipment and do not stand below damaged or sagging ceilings.

Identify what the hose served

Flexible hoses are commonly used at basins, sinks, toilets and appliances. Note the fixture, approximate hose length and connection arrangement so a suitable replacement can be selected.

Consider adjacent hoses

Where several similar hoses were installed at the same time, one failure can justify inspecting the others for corrosion, bulging, damaged braiding or age-related deterioration.
