Start with the existing installation
Before replacement, record the cylinder size, location, access, visible valves and pipework, electrical arrangement and any signs of previous leakage. This helps separate a straightforward replacement from remedial work around the installation.
Scope the full job
The quotation should identify the cylinder, major valves and fittings, removal of the old unit, testing, disposal where applicable, and whether ceilings, cupboards, tiles or other finishes require separate reinstatement. The plumbing and pressure-control installation should comply with the applicable requirements of SANS 10254, including the required safety valves, discharge arrangements and drip-tray provisions for the installation concerned.
Handover and testing
After installation, the system should be filled, checked for leaks and operated sufficiently to confirm that the plumbing side is functioning as intended. Electrical reconnection must be carried out by a registered electrical person and the required electrical Certificate of Compliance (CoC) must be supplied for the electrical work.
