Toilet & Cistern FAQs

Answers to common questions about running toilets, slow filling, leaks, blockages and cistern components.

Why does my toilet keep running after flushing?

Common causes include a fill valve, flush valve, seal, float setting or another cistern component not closing correctly. The exact component should be checked before parts are replaced.

Why is the toilet filling very slowly?

The restriction may be at the local isolation valve, inlet valve, strainer, connector or supply. Compare nearby cold-water flow and check whether the problem affects only that toilet.

Does water around the toilet base mean the pan is cracked?

Not necessarily. Water can track from the cistern, supply connector, pan connection, seals or condensation. Dry the area and note when the water reappears.

When does a recurring toilet blockage need more investigation?

If the same toilet blocks repeatedly after proper clearing, investigate the pan, connector, branch drain and downstream drainage rather than treating each event as unrelated.
