Checklist Before Installing a New Plumbing Fixture

Dimensions, connections, access and surrounding finishes should be checked before the old fixture is removed.

Confirm the exact product

Model dimensions, inlet positions, outlet size, mounting arrangement and required accessories can vary even where two fixtures look similar. Have the actual product details available before assuming it will connect to existing pipework without alteration.

Check the surrounding installation

Inspect isolation valves, wastes, traps, connectors, supports and the condition of the mounting surface. Reusing marginal components simply to keep the quote smaller can create a weak point next to a new fixture.

Plan finishing work

Changing a fixture footprint can expose unpainted surfaces, old holes, damaged tiles or gaps in cabinetry. The plumbing scope should state whether making good is included so the finished appearance is not left unresolved.
